Type scale
A ratio-based system of type sizes.
A type scale is a planned set of sizes — say 12, 16, 24, 36, 48 — derived from a single ratio like 1.25 or 1.333. It gives every text element a consistent place in the hierarchy.
Picking a scale early prevents the chaos of arbitrary font sizes. Headings, subheads, body, and captions all snap to scale steps, which makes layouts feel inevitable rather than improvised.
