Shade
A color mixed with black to make it darker.
A shade is the opposite of a tint. You start with a color and add black to make it darker. Maroon is a shade of red. Navy is a shade of blue.
Shades feel grounded and serious. They work well for text, deep backgrounds, and shadows. Many design systems include several tints and shades of each base color.
