Type hierarchy
Using size and weight to show importance.
Type hierarchy is a system of sizes, weights, and styles that shows what to read first, second, and third. A page without hierarchy feels flat and confusing.
A simple hierarchy might use one big bold heading, a smaller subhead, and regular body text. Three levels are usually enough — too many sizes makes the system noisy.
