Transition

A smooth change between two states over time.

A transition is what happens between "before" and "after." A menu does not snap open — it slides over 200 milliseconds. A button does not jump from one color to another — it fades. Transitions soften change.

Most UI transitions should be short (150 to 300 milliseconds) and use ease-out timing — fast at the start, gentle at the end. Long or bouncy transitions feel slow and hurt usability.
